Lets start with the skin care industry shall we…
Huge eye opener!! Have you seen the new documentary on HBO called NOT SO PRETTY?
It is about the use of harmful chemicals used in the skin industry. There is no real hold on what they sell and put into these products that later cause skin cancer and other skin problems to internal organ issues. If a situation is cheap enough then regulations apply. If it is costly, then they will not bother to regulate and remove products from distribution. It’s all about money folks. If you think about it, these products are mass produced and have a lengthy shelf life. Even the ones that may say natural, are not. They still contain chemicals. Read everything on labels, it’s for your own health!! These products are not regulated and are used every day by men, woman and children. And contain the most cancerous and harmful chemicals in them.
Example: Retail Product – Hyper Glow Serum by Dime - DIME Beauty Co® Official Site - Clean. Effective. Sustainable
Let’s take a closer look at two chemical names found in the ingredients just for an example here:
What is Phenylpropanol in skin care?
Phenylpropanol EHG is a blend of phenylpropanol (70%) and ethylhexylglycerin (30%). Provides effective broad-spectrum protection against gram-positive & gram-negative bacteria, yeast, & mold. Deodorizing properties and is thus effective against odor-causing bacteria.
Phenyl propanol amide side effects. The most common side effects include vomiting, diarrhea, lack of appetite, increased thirst, restlessness, irritability, and difficulty urinating. Serious side effects include seizures, collapse, or stroke-like signs (for example, not being able to walk).
What is Sodium metabisulfite in skin care?
Sodium metabisulfite or sodium pyrosulfite is an inorganic compound of chemical formula Na₂S₂O₅. The substance is sometimes referred to as disodium metabisulfite. It is used as a disinfectant, antioxidant, and preservative agent.
Sodium Metabisulfite may cause an asthma-like allergy. Future exposure can cause asthma attacks with shortness of breath, wheezing, cough, and/or chest tightness. * Sodium Metabisulfite can irritate the lungs. Repeated exposure may cause bronchitis to develop with cough, phlegm, and/or shortness of breath.
Lets talk a little bit now about My Products
I started researching years ago, reading labels and becoming more aware of what I put in my hair and on my skin and even in my mouth. I was just at a holistic practitioners the other day and she said your hair and your skin is so healthy. I told her I make my own and buy what I don't make from small organic companies. I am also a huge advocate for supporting small businesses especially after the pandemic where so many businesses went under.
My products mostly contain fruit and nut oils and therefor do not need preservatives because they do not contain water. And regardless of what they say about breaking out from oil, these oils are meant for the body and face, such as almond, apricot, sesame, cherry seed, coffee seed, pomegranate, carrot seed and so much more. Anything that contains water will need a preservative or it will grow mold. I do make a few creams and a serum that will contain a preservative.
My face cream contains oils and water and therefor does need a preservative in which the one I use is formaldehyde and paraben free and that is the only added nonorganic/natural item I use in those products. Most of my products are just oil based.
Sterilization and Quality
These products are handmade and so I make sure that I always wash my hands and each jar with antibacterial soap and hot water and then each jar is sterilized with natural rubbing alcohol and dried. My workspace is very clean, and everything is stored away and checked for expiration dates. I have my own workshop in my home!!
All my customers that have used my products love them and keep coming back. They really do make a difference and are healthy for your skin, each product is packed with antioxidants, vitamin E, antiaging agents and more. You can read about each product under the Shop page on my website at www.divinebyvictoria com.
